The TerrAdaptor is a highly sophisticated rope access and rescue rigging tool. The amount of quality training required to use this equipment to its full potential is extensive. This tool cannot be mastered over the course of a one-week training session. It will take, at the least, months of training. In reality, it becomes simply a single component in what turns into a career commitment for the pursuit of journeyman rigging.
It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of using one of these devices, however, it is important to understand the potential rescue environment you are planning to use this tool in. If all you have is a simple, relatively flat surface vertical entries, than most likely all you will need is a basic tripod and winch system. The TerrAdaptor's greatest value is when it is used as a monopod, bipod, and/or cantilever. These configurations require a full grasp of rigging physics, including, but not limited to: vector analysis, compounded resultant forces, and maximizing compression while minimizing tension.
There are very few instructors qualified to teach the correct use of the TerrAdaptor. The same holds true for the Arizona Vortex. Pat (Rhodie) Rhodes is one of those rare instructors you want to study with if and when you desire to venture into the realm of advanced multipod rigging.
