Rigging Physics for Rope Access and Rescue Level 1

2 – Days (Open Enrollment or Site-Specific Closed Enrollment)

This course is designed to give the participant a working base of knowledge in those misunderstood areas of force multipliers hidden in every day rescue and rope access rigging.   The focus is on applied (hands on) rigging physics that is easily used in the field including; friction, tension & compression, fall factors/impact force. and resultant forces.

Prerequisites:

Industrial Rope Rescue or higher, or permission of Rhodie Ropes LLC.

Course Objectives

At the completion of this course the participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the qualities of different rescue knots and how they impact elemental physics of rigging.
  2. Analyze the relationship of compression and tension as it applies to anchors.
  3. Analyze vector and resultant forces of rigging.
  4. Analyze friction and its effects on lowering and raising systems.
  5. Analyze fall factors and shock force of various belay systems through the use of drop test calculations.

Course Outline

  1. Knots – A microcosm of rigging
  2. Applied Compression and Tension
  3. Vector Analysis and Resultants
  4. Effects of Friction
  5. Fall Factor and Shock Force
  6. Belay Drop Test
